This moshav was established in the north of Israel in 1936 and named in honor of Yechiel Michel Piness, a writer and a leader of the "Chovevei Zion" movement.

Inscribed on his monument in Jerusalem is a tribute to his pioneering role in settling Eretz Yisrael and his contribution to the revival of the Hebrew language.
