Why is the word "Tzav" used when commanding Aaron and his sons? 2. What do we learn from the words "all night until the morning"? 3. What event in the Parsha teaches "good manners"? 4. Why does the Torah repeat "it shall not go out" concerning the fire on the Mizbe'ach? 5. From where do we learn that the Kohen Gadol must bring a Korban Mincha every day? 6. What is a "Minchas Chinuch"? 7. What is the difference between a "Minchas Kohen" and a "Minchas Yisrael"? 8. What are the 5 categories of Korbanos elaborated on in this Parsha? 9. In which 4 instances is a Korban Todah brought? 10. Which Korbanos of the Shlamim are permitted to be eaten the next day? 11. What is meant by "Pigul" (7:18)? 12. What does "any of your dwellings" teach us? 13. Which type of blood is permitted to eat? 14. Why was Moshe told to gather the Bnei Yisrael to the Ohel Moed? 15. Where do we find the command to sprinkle the Mizbe'ach with oil? Bonus Question The Midrash teaches that a fire from Heaven descended to the Mizbe'ach. If so, then why were the Kohanim commanded to light a fire on the Mizbe'ach (6:5)? I Did Not Know That! Each of the fingers has a name. The ring-finger is called "K'mitza," because it was used for measuring the Kometz from the Korban Mincha (6:8). ======================================================================== Answers to Last Week's Questions - Parshas Vayikra Parsha Questions All references are to the verses and Rashi's commentary, unless otherwise stated. 1. 1:4 - Failure to perform a positive commandment and the violation of a negative commandment that is reparable by performing a positive commandment. 2. 1:5 - From receiving the blood onward 3. 1:7 - The fire both descended from heaven and was brought by the Kohanim. 4. 1:15 - Through the process of "melika." With his fingernail the Kohen cuts the nape of the neck severing the spine, the trachea, and the esophagus. 5. 2:1 - Since it is usually a poor man who brings a Minchah free-will offering, G-d regards it as if the poor person has offered his entire soul (nefesh). 6. 2:1,2:2 - Fine wheat flour mixed with oil and frankincense. 7. 2:1 - A "kometz" (fistful) is taken from the flour before it is baked and this is burnt upon the altar. 8. 2:2 - Even a non-Kohen may mix the Minchah. From the taking of a "kometz" (fistful) and onward it is the duty of the Kohen. 9. 2:11 - Any sweet fruit juice 10. 3:1 - It brings "shalom" (peace) to the world. Also it creates peace between the altar, the Kohen, and the owner since each gets a share. 11. 3:5 - The "tamid" (continual burnt offering) 12. 3:7 - The lamb has a fat tail which is brought upon the altar. The goat has no fat tail to be brought. Since the laws of these animals are different with regards to the Peace-offering, the Torah writes them in separate paragraphs. With regard to the Burnt-offering their laws are identical since they are each completely consumed on the altar. 13. 3:8 - When bringing a "Chatos" the Kohen may apply the blood only with his finger. He may not use a service vessel as with other Korbanos. 14. 4:2 - One who accidentally transgresses a negative commandment whose willing violation carries with it the penalty of "kares"(excision). 15. 5:1-4 - a. One who refrains from giving evidence when adjured by oath; b. One who enters the Beis HaMikdash or eats Kodesh food after unknowingly contracting "tuma" (uncleanliness) by touching certain "tamei" (unclean) things; c. One who unknowingly violates his oath. 16. 5:11 - It has no frankincense or oil. 17. 5:17 - One who is in doubt whether or not he transgressed a negative commandment whose intentional violation carries the penalty of "kares" (excision). Bonus Question Question: In the word "Vayikra"(1:1) the letter "aleph" is written smaller than the other letters. Why? Answer: "Vayikra" (called), which is written with an "aleph", denotes the highest level of prophecy. The word "Vayikar" (chanced upon), which is written without an "aleph", is the language used to express a much lower form of prophecy. Moshe was very humble and wished to mask the fact the he merited the highest level of prophecy. He requested that the G-d delete the "aleph". G-d commanded Moshe to keep the letter "aleph" but as a concession to Moshe's humility permitted him to write it smaller than other letters.
