The Wedding
Here is a true story that
happened recently. I knew that my neighbor had a wedding to attend
that day. His Rosh Yeshivah's daughter was getting married, and
he had told me he wanted to be in time for the chuppah.
When I passed by his house late that afternoon, I saw him davening
mincha (praying the afternoon service) in his dining room.
I thought to myself, "What a nerve! Getting to a wedding
on time certainly doesn't justify missing davening mincha in
shul with a minyan of ten people! And besides,
the chuppah is usually later than the advertised time anyway."
The following day I met my neighbor and asked him: "Well,
how was the wedding last night?" "Oh, I didn't go in
the end," he replied, "I was feeling so sick, I couldn't
even leave the house, not even for davening!"
